ASPIRE Current Scholar Spotlight: Tabitha Smith, 2009 Boren Scholar

TSmith

“Having the Boren Scholarship was an indicator which gave me the confidence that it was possible for me to ascend to a higher strata. Going to Russia was like going to another dimension of reality, yet at the same time I felt like I was at home, and there, I found another avenue to my life’s purpose. Before coming to WVU, I was led to believe that there would be no West Virginian life beyond minimum wage, rural poverty, or working in the fields. Now with opportunities at WVU, like the Boren Scholarship, I have been able to hold onto a feeling of hope, which is solidifiable: that your level of achievement is proportional to your intensity of desire, and how rigorously you work.”
