Gilman Scholarship

Program Information

The Gilman Scholarship offers awards for undergraduate study abroad. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Gilman Scholarship you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen and an undergraduate student in good academic standing
  • Receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that you will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of your study abroad
  • Applying to or be accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.
  • Studying abroad for at least three weeks in one country that has a Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2

Award Information

Gilman scholarships provide funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc. Grant amounts vary by the length of the study abroad term. The maximum award is $5,000.
